Summary

With the same extraordinary skill that he used to demystify scientific abstraction and the new physics, Gary Zukay, the award-winning author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters, here takes us on a brilliant and penetrating exploration of the new phase of evolution we have now entered。
With lucidity and elegance, Zukav explains that we are evolving from a species that pursues power based upon the perceptions of the five senses -- external power -- into a species that pursues authentic power -- power that is based upon the perceptions and values of the spirit。 He shows how the pursuit of external power has produced our survival-of-the-fittest understanding of evolution, generated conflict between lovers, communities, and superpowers, and brought us to the edge of destruction。
Using his scientist's eye and philosopher's heart, Zukav shows how infusing the activities of life with reverence, compassion, and trust makes them come alive with meaning and purpose。 He illustrates how the emerging values of the spirit are changing marriages into spiritual partnerships, psychology into spiritual psychology, and transforming our everyday lives。 The Seat of the Soul describes the remarkable journey to the spirit that each of us is on。

This book is a load of nonsense。 I can’t remember where it was recommended to me。 I like to keep an open mind and consider others points of view and experiences but I could only make it through a quarter of this book。 Very new age/“spiritual” with no evidence to back up claims or his point of view。 While I can appreciate some take-always of essentially we get out of the world what we put in, but this isn’t worth my time。 There’s not many books I don’t finish but this was definitely one of them。

I really struggled with how many stars to give this book, and vacillated between 2 (it was ok) and 3 (I liked it)。 I ended up at 3 because there were parts that I liked and parts that were ok, but when I read this the first time it blew my mind。 This is the second time I have read it, and I think that because I was already familiar with many of the ideas, it didn’t feel fresh to me, and the things that didn’t resonate with me on the first read felt even more discordant。 I also think this is one I really struggled with how many stars to give this book, and vacillated between 2 (it was ok) and 3 (I liked it)。 I ended up at 3 because there were parts that I liked and parts that were ok, but when I read this the first time it blew my mind。 This is the second time I have read it, and I think that because I was already familiar with many of the ideas, it didn’t feel fresh to me, and the things that didn’t resonate with me on the first read felt even more discordant。 I also think this is one of those books that you have to read when you are ready for it。 Having done that, I found myself skimming a bunch and just wanting to get through each chapter and move on。 Not the best way to read this kind of book。 I did feel like the wheels kind of fell off the bus in the chapter on Souls, with his discussion of dolphins, cats and angels。 But he did redeem himself in later chapters on Power and Trust。 This was worth the read, even if only out of pure curiosity。 。。。more

Excelent book for understanding a new and exciting perspective about universe flow。 After this book I am more confident in life and in my own paths。

This was a lovely book to read, the theme of every chapter was well chosen although the author didn’t correlate the content to the theme of the chapter throughout the book。 I felt mindful in the moments between reading bearing in mind the content。 Could of have more of the author’s voice and experiences included otherwise great book!

Interesting。 There are some dated thoughts but overall lots of useful takeaways for improving thought processes and seeing the world in a more positive light。

I really struggled to get through this。 Personally, I think listening to Oprah speaking about intention is enough

You cannot read this book and not be enlightened to some unknown part of who you truly are or have the potential to be。 The path is offered, it’s up to you。 Have to re-read

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 With all the buzz from Oprah, it turned out to be a complete disappoint, in comparison with "The Power of Now", etc。。 All this reincarnation, multisense-vs-five-senses stuff sounds more of a hodgepodge of all sorts of things that have been from everywhere。 With all the buzz from Oprah, it turned out to be a complete disappoint, in comparison with "The Power of Now", etc。。 All this reincarnation, multisense-vs-five-senses stuff sounds more of a hodgepodge of all sorts of things that have been from everywhere。 。。。more

Such a great book!

At first I could not jive with the tone and content of the author but as I gave it time, it became clear to me that I had to be more patient。 The core principals of love and compassion in amongst the personality and the soul is very interesting。 It made me think differently and also make changes to my personal life。

This is probably the dumbest spiritual/ self help book that I have encountered。 Who is Gary Zukav to determine that animals do not have souls yet humans do? Humans are animals。 He offers no evidence or rationale for the many metaphysical, scientific and spiritual claims。

right out the gate, this feels like a directors cut of the book it probably SHOULD have been, as i found myself repeating certain points, and the word “personality” more than i ever thought i would, and some chapters feel like regurgitations of the one before it。 that can get tedious。 all that said, this book is moving and inspiring。 it’s not specifically religious but is a spiritual take, if you’re open to that。 but it redefines the idea of power and will have you asking yourself a question wit right out the gate, this feels like a directors cut of the book it probably SHOULD have been, as i found myself repeating certain points, and the word “personality” more than i ever thought i would, and some chapters feel like regurgitations of the one before it。 that can get tedious。 all that said, this book is moving and inspiring。 it’s not specifically religious but is a spiritual take, if you’re open to that。 but it redefines the idea of power and will have you asking yourself a question with newfound importance: “love or fear? doubt or compassion?” 。。。more

I have started this book before and never finished it。 This time, I was ready and open to hear it。 It is not an easy read - it is dense and I often had to re-read paragraphs。 It is a book I will read again, since it has many layers and I have only scratched the surface。My favorite line: Thy Will Be Done。 This is a fascinating read into the next phase of psychology and medicine where the soul will be included in the total human。 Moving from 5 senses to multi-sensory - it feels like we are in this I have started this book before and never finished it。 This time, I was ready and open to hear it。 It is not an easy read - it is dense and I often had to re-read paragraphs。 It is a book I will read again, since it has many layers and I have only scratched the surface。My favorite line: Thy Will Be Done。 This is a fascinating read into the next phase of psychology and medicine where the soul will be included in the total human。 Moving from 5 senses to multi-sensory - it feels like we are in this phase right now。 Thank you Gary Zukav! 。。。more

Hard pass。Maitri, compassionate loving kindness, is a major element in Buddhism。 And yet, this is wholly absent from Zukav's ideology。 The amount of "us good, them bad" in the very beginning of the book is disgusting。 I didn't make it far into the book, so maybe there's something valuable in it, but there's no reason to wade through this demonizing judgement garbage to find that value。 As other reviewers have stated at great length, anything of value was stolen from other sources。 Hard pass。Maitri, compassionate loving kindness, is a major element in Buddhism。 And yet, this is wholly absent from Zukav's ideology。 The amount of "us good, them bad" in the very beginning of the book is disgusting。 I didn't make it far into the book, so maybe there's something valuable in it, but there's no reason to wade through this demonizing judgement garbage to find that value。 As other reviewers have stated at great length, anything of value was stolen from other sources。 。。。more

Although I was interested in the subject matter of this book, and agree with a lot of the points, it's not an easy read。 I found it both repetitive and yet difficult to grasp。 In essence it could have been a much shorter book and written in a much clearer way。 It deals with spirituality, reincarnation, love, addiction, karma, trusting your instincts and other themes that directly impact on your soul。 It seems from other reviews you'll either love, or be unimpressed by, this book。 Although I was interested in the subject matter of this book, and agree with a lot of the points, it's not an easy read。 I found it both repetitive and yet difficult to grasp。 In essence it could have been a much shorter book and written in a much clearer way。 It deals with spirituality, reincarnation, love, addiction, karma, trusting your instincts and other themes that directly impact on your soul。 It seems from other reviews you'll either love, or be unimpressed by, this book。 。。。more

A deep insight into the journey to the soul。

Serena Amico

The book is a spiritual journey within yourself leading to your self-realisation and soul seeking。 However, with any/poor examples offered, the book is only convening messages with not so many real life representations。

ELINOR

Super deep not for everyone but for those who are open for this deepness it’s an amazing jewel。

it is mesmerizing to read this kind of books, people who are looking for inner comfort will enjoy it。

I didn't finish this book。 It was when Zukav suggested that we had to throw out intellect in order to understand what he was talking about that I began to be reminded of my time in fundamentalism, get triggered, and start to hate everything he was saying。。。 not to mention this concept that all sickness is brought on by people's negative thoughts or some shit。 Take your spacey alien bullshit and rocketeer off to never never land, bro。 I didn't finish this book。 It was when Zukav suggested that we had to throw out intellect in order to understand what he was talking about that I began to be reminded of my time in fundamentalism, get triggered, and start to hate everything he was saying。。。 not to mention this concept that all sickness is brought on by people's negative thoughts or some shit。 Take your spacey alien bullshit and rocketeer off to never never land, bro。 。。。more

The Nodding Express ran smoothly across the tracks at each chapter until just past midway。 Claims unsupported, unsubstantiated about qualities and volition of invisible, inaudible entities, the ignorance of conditioning, adaptation as affect in favour of past lives (what if one is starting out with one life? what if one life is all one gets) are rocks on the tracks。 There's a lot that's good and applicable, but questionable digressions and overlong stays in Wooville ("we're coming to the end of The Nodding Express ran smoothly across the tracks at each chapter until just past midway。 Claims unsupported, unsubstantiated about qualities and volition of invisible, inaudible entities, the ignorance of conditioning, adaptation as affect in favour of past lives (what if one is starting out with one life? what if one life is all one gets) are rocks on the tracks。 There's a lot that's good and applicable, but questionable digressions and overlong stays in Wooville ("we're coming to the end of a 125,000 year cycle, coinciding with the end of a 25,000 year cycle, and a 2000 year cycle") broke the trance-hold。 Aspiration to authentic power is a worthy goal, and the exercises, meditation, and questions in the Study Guide seem to guide the soul incarnate toward that aim。 。。。more

3。5/5。 Thought-provoking。 Definitely did not agree with everything that was presented in this book (and some parts of chapters were pretty redundant), but it helped me define terms and concepts that I have encountered in the past and somehow struggled to grasp。 The study guide is definitely a plus for those who seek to really apply what they have learned。

Although I found the book helpful in some ways, I can’t get past the fact that he argues that schizophrenia is the result of a splintered personality that is not aligned with the soul。 This comparison is grossly stigmatizing and completely false。 Don’t even get me started on Gary’s dolphin soul claim。 The man doesn’t have a psychology degree and he certainly doesn’t have a marine biology one either。
